Advanced plastics play a key role in making everyday products such as computers, mobile devices and automobile parts smaller and lighter every year. Such plastics include Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), an engineering plastic used as an alternative to metal, and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), used as a binder for lithium-ion batteries.

Other advanced materials are used as specialty products to meet the needs of high-tech industries that are essential to modern life. These materials include polyglycolic acid(PGA ) used for shale gas and oil extraction, as well as carbon products used to purify water and air, anode material for lithium ion batteries, and industrial insulation materials.
